What is the Avoiding Gluten Plan?

Coeliac disease is where gluten (a protein found in some cereals) triggers an immune reaction when consumed. This means a special diet is required providing alternatives to foods containing gluten (wheat, rye and barley). Oats are included in the plan but these are pure and uncontaminated (available from the Sainsbury's 'freefrom' aisle in store).

This Meal Plan combines everyday foods that do not contain wheat, rye, barley and oats as deliberate ingredients, and cross contamination has been managed so they are safe to eat.

The plan also includes foods that do not contain gluten naturally and dishes which are made without gluten containing ingredients. In addition the plan contains Sainsbury's 'freefrom' products; a range of foods that have been specially prepared to be gluten-free. It is a balanced weight loss diet with particular attention to levels of calcium, iron and fibre.

Important!

Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley so these foods must be avoided. Pure, uncontaminated oats (which you can find in the Sainsbury's "Free From" aisle) are gluten free. While we have made every effort to recommend foods that do not contain gluten, it is your responsibility to double-check product labels and ensure that the foods you purchase are suitable for your specific requirements.
